The Town of Cottesloe welcomes the news (announced in The Sunday Times on 11 August) that the State government will fund the cost of a replacement shark barrier for Cottesloe beach, now that the original barrier has reached the end of its useful life. Cottesloe was an early adopter of this form of shark mitigation, with the Town meeting the full cost of installation and maintenance over the first five years. The shark barrier at Cottesloe Main Beach has been hugely popular every summer since it was first installed. The State’s contribution to peace-of-mind swimming is welcomed by the Cottesloe community and the many hundreds of thousands of visitors we welcome to Cottesloe beach every year.
