MARINE PARADE PATH TO BE UPGRADED THROUGH ACTIVE TRANSPORT FUNDING
The Town of Cottesloe is excited to announce that we have been successful in securing funding from the Australian Government’s Active Transport Fund (ATF) to upgrade the existing footpath along the length of Marine Parade - from Curtin Avenue to North Street.
The Town has secured $4.175 million in funding from the ATF for design and construction works, which will be utilised over the next four years. The project will involve widening and upgrading the current path to improve the safety of all users, and the accessibility of this popular path.
The upgraded path will also improve connectivity, providing a well-designed shared path with high quality connection to other key locations in the Town.
“An upgraded shared path on Marine Parade will provide a safe route along the length of the Cottesloe foreshore and access to the beach and the businesses on Marine Parade,” Town of Cottesloe Mayor Lorraine Young said.
“The path will also provide a great connection to the Eric Street Shared Path and the shared path on Forrest St, tying in access to the Principal Shared Path along the railway line, Cottesloe town centre, North Cottesloe Primary School and other local businesses and destinations along the way.
“The Marine Parade dual use path has been consistently identified by our community and by Council as high priority in our cycle network.
“Significant external funding is needed to carry out this project and this Australian Government funding will cover over 95% of the estimated project cost, enabling us to get to work on delivering this project.
“Our funding allocation is the second-largest allocation in the State under the ATF, which is fantastic news for our community,” Mayor Young added.
Marine Parade is designated as a primary route in both the Town of Cottesloe and Department of Transport’s long-term cycle network (LTCN) - high demand corridors that connect major destinations. Primary routes are vital to many types of bike riding; medium or long distance commuting, recreational, training and tourism trips. Upgrading the Marine Parade path will not only create a safer, more accessible, and user-friendly environment but also a more inviting environment for current and future active transport users.
The first 12 months of the funding allocation will be dedicated to the design phase, which will involve integration with the Cottesloe Foreshore Masterplan.
The Town of Cottesloe is looking forward to getting this project underway!
